Moving from One State to Another

I know this doesn't help you but might help someone else. How would your situation be different had you before moving gotten a TN non-res license.

I *think* I could have gotten my resident app taken care of online instead of mailing it in. But I might be wrong.

You sure about that? You just print out your license now. So once you are in the system, just go online and print it out. You should have it in a week. I know they didn't mail me my recent renewal license, I just got it online.

That's what I was told by the lady on the phone when I called the TN DOI. She told me to mail it right away, and call in a week to see if I've been issued a number, and they'd give it to me over the phone if I have been. Maybe because it's a new resident license?

Thats what I have always heard agents do. What the OP should have done is called long before moving to the state and knowing his options.

yah, I know, I know! I actually moved a good month before I had planned on it, and hadn't gotten around to calling the TN DOI. My plan was to get a non-res license first and then change to res when I moved down here. But the opportunity to move a month ahead of schedule came up so I had maybe a week head's up before moving, and I spent that week trying to wind things up with clients in IL, and didn't get around to it. I'm a terrible procrastinator! LOL

I've been all over the stupid websites trying to figure out the best way to switch my license from IL to TN. I moved here to TN this past weekend.

IL says that when I get my new resident license in TN, to let them know within 30 days and they will change my IL license to a non-residential free of charge for the duration of my license (another year + for me)

However, I cannot for the life of me figure out what I need to do for TN to GET my license here. I thought I could do it online but I can't find a link anywhere.

Am I going to have to call the TN DOI tomorrow, or can someone point me in the right direction? I really thought it would be easier to just wait and get a resident license after I moved instead of getting a non-residential before and then switching it over, but I'm thinking that's not the case now....


Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated. Otherwise I guess I'll call tomorrow. (tried to today, but DUH....there was no answer! haha)

I would say it depends on the state. I had to cancel my CO license, get a letter of clearance and fax the into the UT DOI. Then apply for my res license in UT. Once that was issued I was then able to reply on NIPR for my CO non res. Kind of a pain but was done with in a couple of weeks.
