I usually a lurker, but not in this group but I need some help! If you know me, you don't know me.
Very long story short, my 25 year relationship is imploding. It coincides with some health issues and so may be not his fault but the fact of the matter is I am here no matter the reason. I thought he had taken a leave to get surgery but had quit, canceled our health insurance, spent his disbursements. I then found all of our savings, retirement, funds gone. No payments on home, my car, credit cards maxed etc. My credit cards are slowly having limits decreased and my credit score is hovering at a solid 475. I still have kids at home, in elementary and middle school and am now wondering how to pay for sports, braces, health insurance and a million other things while keeping lights on.
I hate to turn this into a reality show or relationship column but that is where I am. These are the negatives.
I am not defeated because I still have a lot going for me, but my head is not clear and I need outside opinions.
Here is what I have, a 10 year old P&C business that covers 5 states. Mostly states I have lived while traveling for my husbands job. My book is 2 mil, I have treated it like a part time job because I have needed flexibility to raise a bunch of kids. Some are out of the house, one runs the agency as an office manager. I have good retention and even the people that leave are open to contact. I have a good management system in place and have 1500 current clients and another few thousand that have left or didn't buy.
At first I thought I would spend my time doing yearly reviews and try to uncover things but everyone wants to complain about rates and adding an ATV here and there isn't paying bills. So then I thought about life insurance, I suck at life insurance. I know people need it, but I have 10 policies in my whole agency.
This is why I am posting here, I think life may be my ticket to some short term funds to help dig me out but I don't know how to sell to my existing customers. I mention it, its on my email signature, but no one bites. I can't afford to buy leads, or get hooked up with some whole downline situation. I am a captive and have to use my companys life but it is limited to term and 1 IUL so I can have outside appointments so I use Backnine. I am not sure I can get more than that without violating my contract and losing my renewal business.
There are a lot of experts here, how do I sell to my existing book without wasting a ton of time? What do I focus on? I wasn't good at it before and now I feel desperate. Do I do social media videos and raise awareness, do I use mail chimp or something similar and blast everyone? What do I blast, what converts? I don't even know where to start. I am sure my approach sucks or I would have sold more than 1 policy a year. I used to mail quotes to every client twice a year and that never paid off. The sales I do get are usually my clients call and say hey do you do life? I have the people, I have the trust, they know me, what am I missing?
I would welcome any guidance and I appreciate anyone that takes the time to just offer a tip.
