The Medicare & You Handbook states that as long as you are covered under a group health plan you won't have a late penalty for not enrolling in Part B or D by a certain time.

What about someone who is aging in, (T-65) but wants to keep his individual family plan covering younger spouse and child under 26.

How do you advise someone in this scenario?

Most individual health plans will dump them at age 65, or at least that is what I understand.

I get they want to keep their kids or dependents covered on their plan, but the child can change the policy to an individual plan just covering that one (or more) person.

If their plan doesn't do them the great service of canceling them and pushing them onto Medicare, they will be subject to late enrollment penalties for not taking Medicare when they were first eligible for it. The dependence will be eligible for a special election to choose a plan at that time.

Thanks guys!

I should have known that! I recently took the FFM/ACA certifications!

I REMEMBER NOW that training clearly explained this!

All recently acquired knowledge doesn't really sink in until it's applied in the field!
