So How Many Calls a Day Should I Make?

As many as you can? When cold calling a lot of new agents think the goal is to get an appointment/sale, which is true, but another benefit is it's a great way to get a ton of experience talking to people and getting experience working the phone. Even if people are saying no, if you're getting comfortable on the phone then you're definitely getting something valuable out of it.

That makes a lot of sense. When I first started out, the hardest thing for me was approaching people I didn't know and Picking up the phone to talk to people. even if I had an appointment that I knew the person wanted to talk to me, just going in the house to talk to them was hard... yeah I wasn't exactly a people person the first month or two I started.

As for the numbers, I wouldn't put a set number of dials. I usually put a time frame on my dial sessions. "I will make phone calls from 5pm - 7:30pm and my goal is to make 3 appts." (notice I didn't put a number of dials, and if i exceed my goal (goal, not limit) i reward myself with something)

I used to work in addictions treatment. Came across a guy in recovery who went to 7 AA meetings a day. Someone asked why seven a day? His reply: Because six wasn't working.

This applies to any effort to succeed. The correct number is as many as it takes. Not the same number for every person.

And, The Old Post Police may not like it, but an old thread like this one, now bumped a second time after a long break, is good to revisit.

I totally agree!

Voicemail: Yes or No? One of the variables here that takes up time is whether you decided to leave voicemail or not. I can do 500 dials a day if I am not leaving voicemail because most of the time, people don't answer the phone. I know there are programs out there that have automatic dialing and some with voicemail recording capability so you can save your voice. Bill Good recommends to never leave voicemail. Thoughts?

I have heard it both ways. I say no because if someone calls you back you are usually not expecting it and are totally unprepared for it.

I say no too. Since I call from a dialer when the number comes up in my phone I have no idea who it is. So it's kinda awkward having to ask them who they are and I always hear " well you called me!". Always happens when I'm driving in the middle of traffic with nothing to reference in front of me. :embarrassed:

Using a predictive dialer with multiple lines will generate A LOT of caller ID's on all those numbers dialed. People call back all the time wanting to know who called this number, who are you, etc. This can be a huge time waster and you most likely will not know who these people are calling back. So the best way to handle call-backs is to list a voicemail call back phone number in your outgoing Caller ID along with your name. I don't recommend using your company name but use your personal name to get more call-backs. Then when they call back they are reaching your voicemail only line that has a short message of who you are and what you were calling for. If they are interested, they can leave their name & number and you'll call them back. But either way, you can see who is calling you back without taking their call. My system sends me an email message of their call back listing their caller ID name & phone number.
