You don't need a sponsor to take the exam but 'I think' you need to hang your license under a company to operate "Correct?"

Yes. The 65 (or a credential exempting it) is the first step. You still need to register as an IAR under an RIA.

Of course, you could just start your own RIA and hang yourself.

Yes, they made me do the list of 200 people after my second interview. Can you tell me what will be done with that list (of course i'm most likely going to try to sell to them but is there anything else I need to know?).
