I went to High School with John.
His DOB is 10.06.1952.
I contacted him in July 2017 about a Medicare supplement. He told me he was going to use the VA for all his healthcare!
Yesterday (27 months later), he calls me to tell me the Medicare supplement I sold him was $hit!
He recently fell off a horse and broke his leg. Nothing was Paid.
I said to John, "I didn't sell you a Medicare supplement". He paused. "Oh, sorry Dayton, I remember who sold it to me now".
I ask John, "what Medicare supplement do you have?".
He tells me he has "Cigna Plan F" .
I had John text me a pic of his Medicare card & Cigna Id card.

So, a few stupid questions (because I don't currently sell med supps):
1) Shouldn't the writing agent have spotted that he didn't have part B and deferred writing the plan F until he was properly covered? (Does the agent have any liability here?)
2) Doesn't the company check to make sure the insured is covered under Part B before issuing the Supp?
3) Would the supplement still pay whatever they would have paid even though he doesn't have part B?

I can state number 2 answer is NO they will issue the policy regardless, I had one a few years back was going to apply for part B the next day I took app for supp it was issued He never applied for part B Insurance company didn't care they took the premiums

Number 3 NO the supp supplements medicare If there is no medicare to supplement there is no coverage

1) Yes! and Yes!
2) Maybe? How the hell could Cigna set up crossover?
3) Absolutely No!

So to recap, John has a Cigna Plan F effective 10.1.17.
Hospital Part A effective 12.1.18.
No Part B.
I'm dying to see a copy of the signed Cigna application.
John is digging through his paperwork and will get me a copy of the policy.
I said to John, when you met with the agent, you didn't have a Medicare Id card.
John only told the agent, "I'm turning age 65 in October".
