Switching From Supplement To MAPD

Getting back to switching from MA to Med Supp, do the carriers rate up based on the underwriting or is pass/fail? I checked the PA DOI and I understand that carriers in PA can exclude pre-ex conditions only for the first 6 months of coverage. I learned today that this lady may need knee replacement surgery. BTW thanks for the replies to my earlier questions.

No rate ups for med supps. They usually just have smoker/ non smoker rates. I know of one company that had preferred and standard ratings depending on how many meds you took.

As for pre x, here in IN, as long as the had creditable coverage then there is no pre x waiting period. Medicare counts as creditable coverage.

Can someone switch from a med supp to an MAPD outside of AEP?

Only Low Income Subsidy (LIS) folks can change outside the AEP, most LIS folks wouldn't be paying for a supplement out of pocket anyway. So not normally, unless their supp co went away mid-stream, which would create a special election period (SEP)...?
