T65 Common Questions

How many sales have you made because of this post?

But to be more serious.. most of your pages aren't "sales" pages.. they're traffic pages. If you're writing content that you're trying to gain traffic to move them to more transaction pages, great. Writing or creating content that will not get you traffic due to competition is a waste unless you have pages that will push traffic to the competitive "sales" pages ;)

Yeah. That balancing act is difficult. Writing for both the search engines and prospects is challenging.

Most of my content is now in emails. So, I just try to write interesting and informative copy that helps position me as an expert.

I know I'm missing out on SEO traffic. But i usually forget and/or am too busy and/or lazy to repurpose my content. I promised myself I'd do better this year, but it's February and I've added a dozen emails and zero blog posts.

I mainly use my blog to answer common questions. If, for example, a client emails me and asks how to sign up for Medicare, I'll send them a link to a post. This way I don't have to type the same answers over an over.

Thanks for the feedback.

My site(s) have always been informational, not sales driven. I have never viewed my business model as transactional.

I don't get a lot of volume, but don't need much either at this point. It has been a slow build with lot's of changes over the years. Those who find me are looking for information and answers to their questions. I am a voice in the wilderness.

Organic traffic has become more difficult the last few years. The latest Google "improvement" pushes paid ads to the forefront taking up a significant chunk of page 1 and 2 real estate. Most of the other results on those pages are govt, carrier and "big boy" agencies.

It was never my expectation be able to compete against folks with a 6 figure (or more) marketing budget. I had to carve out my own niche and work it religiously. I tried paid advertising but only made the publishers happy.

My client base is such now that, not only does it sustain me, but also creates a number of referrals every month. I still get organic traffic, just not as much as in the past.

For now I am managing to compete with videos but that could change as well. The videos are well received even though they are unscripted and lack fancy graphics.

But the message resonates with a number of folks and many become clients.

I haven't done direct mail like @Alston but I do have a monthly newsletter that is good for a few referrals every month. All things considered, life is good right now.

Last year I was able to take off 5 months to care for a family member. My work week was limited and I had to be more selective in which calls and emails were pursued and which were ignored.

I occupied a lot of my time learning about email marketing and researching Medicare topics that would attract eyeballs. Spent a LOT of time looking at sites that ARE informational and learned things there too.

So my time off was not completely unproductive.

Sorry you are having a tough day.

Sorry you are having a tough day.

I didn't think I was having a bad day... I'm sorry if I came across as grumpy. I was being a bit dry and jokey, which doesn't translate online sometimes.

Traffic for YMYL has become more difficult.. for sure. But establishing E-A-T helps with that.

On my end, I look to social sites (like Quora) and use Yoast Suggest to find questions I think are interesting.

If it's on Quora or Reddit AND shows up in a keyword search tool, like Yoast Suggest.. I'm probably going to Google it and see if I can rank for it.

Most people skip the ads for organic ranking sites, but the Ads do make it a pain.

Video is obviously a boon. It's something I've been putting off and putting off, because I want to put out the best content I can.. however, I'm stuck in analysis paralysis so I'm just going to have to start doing it and learning as I go vs not doing anything at all.

Email marketing is definitely awesome.. and another part of my plan that I ironed out. I don't want to pay for sign ups... I don't know what @Alston pays per sign up, but FB is just way too expensive per "lead" to me.

Personally, I look at other people's sites in my space and use UberSuggest to see what's working for them. It doesn't offer the most recent available numbers like a paid service; but it gives me an idea.

Then I look at there content and see if I can do better.

Medicare and politics have been annoying me lately. I ended up creating a new site that was more branded towards me, as an agent, vs being branded as a product.

I decided to use a door opener product and then focus on T65 as they come up AND/OR garner traffic as it comes in.

It means I'm starting over again... However.. I'm better served long term as if Congress obliterated Medicare tomorrow I could shift by just making edits to my site.. vs having to redo everything.

I do get calls for Medicare via Google Local..

I'm all for educating clients, 100%. However, I gotta find topics that educate and I can compete for... Medicare is one of the most difficult topics to do digital marketing for (especially blogs) just because you're competing against .GOV and nonprofits BEFORE you even get to agencies with a huge marketing budget.

Then again, I don't think there's anything wrong with the occasion silly topic that's proven to drive traffic to the site, then convert them with an impulse quote or to at least gain interest.

It's only expensive if you can't close enough of them. I paid $10 per lead in 2019. I think I spent about $8 for 2018. If the changes I made in late 2019 continue to perform well, my CPA will drop to $5.00 or less for 2020.

My FYC is well over double my ad spend, even at $10 per lead. And I get the renewals "for free."

The problem is, you may have to test and tweak for months before you know what works. It took 3 months before I made my first sale from FB, but now I make several every week.
