Veterans Benefits and Medicare?......

One nice thing about the MA is that it allows Veterans to easily access specialists outside of the military facility, for second opinions, etc. Of course they could also do that with Medicare and no MA plan, but the cost would generally be higher.

With a 0 premium MA plan, they have a whole range of additional options that are very affordable. Also while traveling, for those MA's that provide coverage for routine care while away from home, this can be a nice alternative to finding a nearby VA.

Another point is that sometimes the VA is out of a particular drug, that can be obtained at a local pharmacy. This doesn't happen a lot, but it comes up from time to time. The MAPD allows the Veteran to fill the medication at a nearby pharmacy.
