I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys on this type of Direct Mail lead. To be ultra clear, they are the direct mail leads that do mention the standard things like life insurance and social security benefits only paying out $255. Then on the card they detach and mail back, it has the option for them to check which level of coverage they would be interested in (2k,5k,10k,20k, etc). Somewhere on the card they mail back it has a prechecked box that says: " PLEASE RUSH me information on the plan I have checked below as well as my FREE WAL-MART Gift Certificate.

Is the closing ratio on these types of DM leads much lower vs ones that dont offer a free walmart card?

I know the basic premise of these types of DM leads is that they result in a higher response rate and even if the closing ratio is lower (although I dont know how much lower), its still worth it.

I have been given the chance to work these types of DM leads and ones that dont have this walmart card offer.

I am just looking for some honest feedback from those who have had experience with these types of DM leads. Thanks

My guess is you will get a lot of responses just to get the card. What is the value? Anything over a buck and you can end up shelling out some jack for nothing.

I ran leads that offered free calculators and other free junk. What I found was the people that were interested in insurance never brought the junk but the ones wanting a free gift were asking about it at the door.....

Now these were recycled Bankers leads and I quickly shifted to cold calling pre-DNC the nonresponders and had better results.

I would definitely try this card if it was offered at a fixed cost.

To me, this card wouldn't do as good as others when you call to set the appointments. But if you Door Knock with them, I bet they are as good as any other!

The problem is that the "Free Gift Card" negates the Value of the card mentioning "Life Insurance"....

Just to be clear, NO, I have never used this type of card. If it comes down to me dropping my own mail, I would stick with the standard card that says "state regulated program that pays for your final expenses regardless of your medical condition"

Back in the last century when I started in the life insurance business we mailed out letters with reply cards. If you sent the card in you were promised a Rand McNally road Atlas.

We had to pay for the mailers + $5 or so for each returned card. Most agents would simply show up at the door, Atlas in hand. They had a lot of people that would take the Atlas then make an excuse to rush out the door without ever inviting the agent in.

I called to make an appointment and actually qualified them over the phone . . . something my manager discouraged. I figured, what the heck. I paid for the mailer, paid for the Atlas, if I didn't want to set the appointment, so what?

For every 10 Atlases I bought I probably gave away 2 and kept the rest.

I tried them once. 2,000 pieces. Surprisingly did not goose response rate which was pretty low. The leads were definitely weak.

But years ago when I sold for SCI (Dignity Funeral Homes) they did a mailing that included a $5 Shell Gas Card. That got a huge response and those leads were gold.

Any idea why one gift card lead piece was ultra strong, and the other was weak?
