This is DFW specific, but it will give you a general idea. Biggest things to know are that Wellcare pulled Walmart from their preferred list and Silver Script cheap plan tightened up the network, but it doesn't give specifics.
(And the new Medicare.gov plan finder is HORRIBLE)

2022 Part D

Wellcare

1. Went from 6 plans to 3. Major cost shifting on the premium side

2. CVS, Walgreens preferred

3. Walmart is removed from preferred list

Humana

1. Walmart Value goes from $17 to $23

2. Tiers 1 and 2, no deductible

3. Basic goes from $20 to $23

4. Basic has Deductible on ALL Tiers???

5. Premier goes from $66 to $74

Silver Script

1. Smart goes from $7/30 to $6.20

2. Smart Deductible on Tier 2+

3. Smart Network is "smaller" but no specifics

I only use SS as insurance against an LEP. Clients always encouraged to pay cash or use a discount card instead of the drug plan, ANY drug plan. Generic copays on most plans are considerably higher than cash payments.

Had a referral the other week who was moving .Gave her 2 carrier choices on mapd as I ran her 17 drugs . She went with the carrier that didn't cover 3 of her drugs . She said the other carrier didn't either but the good rx prices were very cheap . Are agents on her shopping their clients pdp yearly ? I now see how time consuming pdp and mapd is at revewal time . Im also juggling in aca . 80 hr weeks coming till mid Jan.

90% of the people I run into with Med sups and pdp's have had their pdp's for many years . For people that write medigap and pdp's . A rough ballpark of what % of people's drugs are taken out of a pdp's formulary ? Is it very rare a company drops a drug ? I know they move tiers .

I have no idea how many folks keep or move their plans. All that matters is what MY clients want to do.

Since you seem to be "hands off" and clueless about how PDP changes from year to year, here is a partial list of things that a GOOD agent monitors for their clients.

Premium changes
Total cost (premium + copay's)
Network changes
Tier changes
Drugs added to the formulary, drugs removed

Clients start contacting me in August, inquiring about how to lower their Rx costs. I respond and put their email on snooze until the first of October.

There is no way I can proactively run reports for everyone, so I make them aware of changes and invite them to "tell me where it hurts".

If "90% of the people" run into have had the same PDP and/or Medigap for years I would say the agent that sold them the plan is either out of the business or has not earned the trust and respect of their client.

Hands off ? You sit in your office day in day off doing videos as I give personal service face to face .In 10 months I'm not far behind you in active policys and I expect I'll have more active than you after Aep . Hell yeah that's clueless .Matter of fact many of the top Medigap agents don't even do pdp's.Bob you seem to like to belittle people . I see it all the time .

You have to think of his approach as a respectful slap in the face from our elders, who have soaked up years of knowledge that he graciously passes along to help agents and protect consumers. You've got to read past whatever "hate" you perceive, and grab the nuggets from a guy that tells it like it is, and a mentor to many. Take it or leave it.

I'd say 30% of my clients change PDP plans, higher if there is more disruption in the market like when a carrier bails, or premiums go from $17 to $59 like this year. If you don't touch those clients, or know what they own....... you may lose that client if they respond to a football star commercial.

You can either go the "retain my book" mentality like I do, and focus on the renewals, and build a massive referral chain in the meantime by assisting clients in shopping for a PDP plan each year. I'll get 2 dozen med supp referrals this AEP. It's an enjoyable time talking with clients once a year, if you allow it to be. I realize it about day 10.

Or, you can have a churn model where you write it, run away from PDP, and focus on the "next" number (human). They buy leads, make 100 calls a day, get few free referrals, and "produce" first and foremost. Most of these perceived successful agents that "sell" and move on, are betting they can write more policies then drop off with no service. Some make it, some don't. My retention rate equals 100% minus the death rate.

I started about 10 1/2 months ago .I'm near 270 active . I've lost around 15 to date and none in last 5 months . I door knock every lead.. In duals and lis ( About 80% of my business) face to face is critical .This year I'm looking to add many medigap and non duals to the mix. I had to start somewhere . The amount of referrals I'm getting is staggering . I've helped over 50 people get Lis,Qmb and or part of their part B back. I'm helping so many people and i really enjoy this . My mind is like a sponge in this because i like it . I don't sell I advise and help people . My goal is 1500 active in 5 years and 750 aca . In 18 months I'll hire an assistant and then in 2-3 yrs they'll be full time . With the mailers my fmo sent out I'm near 220 dm leads plus since i'm ambassador level with Humana i'm in their pilot program this year taking internet leads from their website. Yeah Bob knows his shit no doubt but he needs to be a little nicer!!!
