Anyone close to Dallas?

Going to be the on a company trip next month.

Looking for live music venues. Blues, Country, Rock.

I’m in the Dallas Metro area, about 40 miles to the north of “the Big D”. My debit area is in Dallas, but I’m never down there at night or on weekends. So I can’t necessarily vouch for any particular venue.

Having said that, the main Dallas music mecca is in Deep Ellum which is situated immediately to the east of downtown Dallas. A variety of venues all situated within a few blocks of each other. Really good food over there, too. If you go, see if Pecan Lodge Barbecue is open and get some brisket and burnt ends. (The Mac and cheese is wonderful, too!)

The only authentic, old school blues bar left in Dallas is RL’s Blues Palace II. It’s in the middle of my debit. I have clients in the apartment complex across the street. I’ve thought about hauling my guitar down there to see if the house band would let me sit in with them, but I’ve never gotten up enough courage! Partly because I’m not sure that my blues skills would be quite up to their level. But it’s also one of the sketchiest neighborhoods I go into. It’s pretty sketchy even on Monday in the broad daylight. It might be downright dangerous on a Saturday night! But if you’re brave enough, it would be the quintessential blues experience.

If you’re up for a bit of a drive, Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth is a major country music venue.

An important “Texas Music” (sub-genre of country/western) spot is up my direction in Plano - Love and War in Texas.

A couple other popular spots:
POOR DAVID'S PUB

The Goat - Your Neighborhood Blues Bar

There’s also a House of Blues downtown which is cool if there’s somebody there you want to see, but pretty pricey.

Assume I really want to hear / see some in the Texas Blues vain of T-Bone, Freddy King and of course Stevie Ray.

I was at a blues jam last night that got me groovin.

I don't mind sketchy at all. Kinda like. Hope to do Memphis and Nashville this year.

That place was awesome but do they still have 2-hour lines?
You know, speaking of company trips and blues bands, I was on a company trip in Tahoe about 3 years ago. There was a terrific Texas blues band at Harrah’s. I guess they play there every week on Tuesday. The lead guitarist was a guy named Buddy Emmer. He had a definite Stevie Ray influence. I talked to him after the show. When I said I was from Dallas, he got excited and said he grew up in Richardson right next door! He knew Stevie Ray and his brother Jimmie, and played a lot of the same venues in his youth. Have you ever seen that show?

You might want to check out the schedule for Texas Flood. They started out as a SRV tribute band, but they’ve branched out into other artists and some of their own material. They’ve definitely got the right vibe. https://texasflood.net/

Another really good blues & blue eyed soul band is the Maylee Thomas Band. The mayor of my town plays guitar in the band (he’s married to Maylee). They’ve been a mainstay in our area for a couple decades. Maylee really has an incredible voice!

I am meeting my son and family there. I was going to drive it, two days, but jacked up my back. I may just rent a car and stay another week. Nomad agent by day drunken old Blues groupie by night.

No, but I will now!

We mainly just do Harvey's outdoor series locally b/c the venue is really beautiful and prefer to be outdoors.

Steve Miller Band a few years back:

And Arty the Party but I wouldn't call that a concert/show...lol.

Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated.
