Can I Get Licensed in FL if I Am Behind on Child Support?

I have recently taken my 40 hr pre license course and test, paid to get fingerprinted and today I applied to take my license exam and it asked about child support. On the online application it stopped and said I must "provide evidence that you are PARTCIPATING in a child support payment plan" and would not let me go any further.

My question is this: I am on a payment plan, and yes, I am severly behind, my drivers license is suspended and I have not paid due to unemployment for like 2 yrs. Can I still get licensed to sell life and health in the state of FL?

That's all I need to know. I do not want nor need anyone telling me I am a bad dad or whatever for not paying, as u do not know my situation. All I want is an answer, because obviously, if I can make money selling insurance, I can start making support payments again.

I look forward to your answers, but please, make sure it is facts, not just guesses or assumptions. Thanks!

You will probably need to talk with the support enforcement office in your area, let them know that you are trying to obtain an insurance license to be able to earn income, to pay support, etc. If they will support your plan and provide whatever documentation that is needed, you may be able to work your way through this. Then as long as you stick with the plan, you should be fine (or if not they would suspend the license most likely).

chances are if you were doing an online application of rinsurance and it would not let you past the screan then its kinda like an application question on BCBS of TX... do you live in texas... you check no the applications says sorry, no for you

The state sees you as irresponsible. Also, they are withholding the license to urge you to pay the child support due. The fact that you are getting the license to make money with which to pay child support is not something they care about.

Your odds of getting a license without being current on a payment plan is about zero.

Thanks for all of your input. I did get approval to take test and passed and obtained my FL license. I am now in the process of training with a company. I have not tried to get appointed with any carrier yet until my training is done but I would like to think if the state of FL would allow me to get licensed, hopefully most if not all carriers that I apply for will appoint me. I plan on focusing on health ins. Your thoughts? Just ready to get my life back on track with my new career and just really worried that after all the studying and fees and training that carriers will not allow me to get appointed with them. Do any of you know of any other people in my situation and if so, what was the outcome in regards to getting appointed? Thanks again!.

I would suggest you try to get a job at a large captive or semi-captive company like NYL, MassMu, NW, MoO etc. If you explain your situation and sell them on the concept that you are turning your life around and will work your fingers to the bone to be successful, you might get "hired" and trained... and it could be a good new-start for you.

You might try Aflac... as they will take just about anyone who can fog a mirror. And then there is PrimeAmerica or NAA which have their own "history" (search here for it) but you need to start somewhere and if you can get on with them and get out from under your judgements and have a couple of years of profitability, you can "trade up" later on.

Trying to get appointed with most carriers through the rep or GA distribution system with your spotty past is going to be difficult because you probably won't have a one-on-one chance to sell yourself to anyone but the local rep who is not a decision maker... only a recruiter. When the HO checks you out via a Clearpoint background investigation and they see a bunch of judgements against you they are most likely going to stamp your paperwork "rejected." Does not hurt to try... perhaps a really solid cover letter will help... but I think going the captive route is your best strategy.

Personally, I would try to get a regular job in order to meet your obligations and to show a track record of employment before taking a plunge into the commission-only insurance sector. It is very hard to make it in this business unless you have six months of living expenses in the bank... and even then the pressure is enormous.

I don't think this is the right biz for you at this time, but if you are committed and have a good work ethic, you might prove me very wrong... and I hope you do.
