Dave Ramsey

Well, 20 years ago well before I was in insurance I was in electrical construction. Made about $40k per year. Bought my first home, had a nice car....my uncle was/is a financial advisor. I was an investor at that time. Not big, but a consistant investor. In my opinion, it's all in individual discipline.

AGREED! Miss the old pre-insurance days!

Most people should be (especially those under $100,000 of income) saving rather than investing. Amateur investors make amateur decisions which is why the S&P 500 beats the pants off of most people's portfolios. Mr. Williams is right. I miss listening to him.

bruce williams, was, or is a great radio personality...but remember he lived in nj.... 75,000 doesn't go far in nj/nyc metro area.

They are a stream of income for him because they are an advertiser, and just that. I guess before long he will own the world since he's got over 3 million listeners and he owns every company that advertises with him, geez!

Primerica guy,

If you don't know that Dave owns a piece of Zander then you are under a rock somewhere. He does. Period. Notice there are no other ELP's anywhere for Life.

I KNOW him, not heresay.

Not only are there no other life ELP's... the customer service follow up email asks a total of 10 or 12 questions and 4 of them are to confirm the P&C agents are not cross selling term life.

I suppose it vary's by state, but I have always thought owners of insurance agencies had to be licensed, even if they are not receiving commissions on a direct basis. If so, licensed agents are subject to a higher standard for their advice vs. a radio entertainer.

So is Dave licensed or not?

i'm not sure about that. i wouldn't think that would have to be the case since he isn't selling it personally. i can own a company and not operate it.

i can tell you that his license expired in 1996 in TN. he was licensed there for 12 years as a producer. (don't you just love public records?)

personally, i respect dave ramsey (and hell, even suze orman and jim cramer). they started from nothing and built empires based on their ability to draw people in. they all make a killing now. is their advice for everyone? hell no! however, i think many (MANY) people need to start from the basics.

Must be another dave ramsey, he was never a producer.

Dave says "Don't be strive to be normal, normal people are broke and in debt". AMEN !!!!!

His advice, although elementary is sound.

I am a listener, and using his cash techniques I no longer have car payments, or credit card debt( paid off almost $30,000 in 2 years). My house will be paid for in a max of 12 years( I will be 58) but probably in 8 years(I will be 54).

Dave Ramsey preaches "Peace of Mind" which I know from experience works because I am 2 years into a new career and only do and sell what I want to, because I don't have bill collectors calling me everyday.

Some guys works 70 hours a week to put money away for their later years. I would rather have peace of mind today because I may die tomorrow, or today.
