What if you try to stick to some core guys that you are very familiar with their UW. IF the PHI is such a hassle ... why not master the UW yourself?

I like Trans - they rarely do a PHI. only had 2 out of 150 apps this year

I like to "know before I go" so that I am efficient with my time. Trinity's PHI for example is about 7 minutes. Some of the non PHI carriers take almost as long because they require you to write down the name of the doc, meds, mg, times per day each med is taken and so forth. So by the time you do all that extra stuff the PHI only takes a couple of extra minutes.

Also, if the client gets rated or declined you are there to pivot to the next carrier instead of finding out 3-5 days later the client got dinged.

PHI carriers are better for replacement situations as well. If replacing I like to know my answer in the house so I can call that clients current carrier to take them off bank draft.

No matter how much I think I have "mastered underwriting" after 11 years, clients will not reveal everything to you 100% of the time. There are ALWAYS those clients that didn't tell you they have a touch of AIDS or just a sprinkle of that ALZHEIMERS. And now you find yourself having to call the client a few days later letting them know they were declined and you need to come back out to find a better solution blah blah blah. There is NO GUARANTEE that you will ever get in front of that client again.

It's really personal preference, you'll find good arguments on both sides of this debate.

Personally I always prefer a point-of-sale interview also I think it helps protect the agent if the client dies during the contestable period. The problem with not doing a point-of-sale interview is when carriers that do a prescription check. Even if they tell you all the medications, there are many times they don't remember that drug they took 18 months ago for a few weeks that could cause a decline or a rate up. I don't like surprises that cost me time and money...

I'm more of a Med Supp guy, but I like to know before I go too. There've been plenty of times that I've had to pivot to another company...a couple of times I've had to use a 3rd company to "getter done". It saves time and as it's been said, you might not get back in the house again if you don't use a POS company and they get declined. I feel that if a person spends the time to go through the POS and gets approved, they feel ownership immediately. That's a solid sale.

I wish more Med Supp companies did the POS with approval, only a few do.

What about agents that have a touch of DISHONESTY and screw people over constantly? Really should "know before you go" into an agreement with those kinda folks. Know what I mean?????

I lead with KSKJ and they do not have a pos interview. I don't care for pos interviews but I will use whatever my foto company has for a procedure.

I prefer PHI but I will use something to skip it if I'm pressed for time. there are some clients out there who take the "5-10 minutes" thing literally. :goofy:
