Experiences with Humana One?

I haven't had any problems with Humana and their newly designed products are great - the portfolio of options is truly impressive. What is more impressive is different plans had different underwriting guidelines.

Take Asthma as an example - their cheapo plan might issue no rate up, no rider. Their middle plan might issue w/ rate up , while their top plan would rider. Good to understand all plans and u/w on conditions - please read the u/w guidebook if you are going to sell Humana...

What I don't like...

In most of my markets their price particularly on families is out of line. Also for whatever reason I have had abnormal retention problems with Humana compared to my other carriers. Individual Internet retention is horrible anyhow - for some reason they rank dead last on my stick rate - however this was on their old plan designs.

Also their renewal commission are unacceptably low - sorry I can't live off of 5%. Their are higher contracts based on volume but I don't like the fact they have to sign off on rate ups and waivers this is not required by law in every state, but is required by Humana and is overkill by legal.

We do sell their maternity rider if someone is bent on maternity - in Texas it only has a 30 day wait and for $325/mo with a $100 ded and 60% coverage it is a great bargain (joke...) lol...

I never sold any of their old plans so I can't say anything about them. I do like the underwriting guidelines. As TX said, they have different criteria depending on the plan & deductible.

While I do not like no Rx plans, there are some conditions (so I am told) where they will issue a policy that they would not normally do on a full Rx plan. I suppose it depends on the situation and whether or not I can get someone covered through another source with full Rx.

Almost all of my business is internet leads and referrals from internet leads and I don't have a retention problem. I have only been working internet leads for about 3 years and most of my clients are still on the books. The ones who left did so mostly because they (or their spouse) got a job and they returned to employer group.

I suppose it all depends on how you work your leads as to whether they stay around or leave.

Demographics is a big part of the retention, and how much you cherry pick leads is a big portion as well.

There is nothing I can do to keep a 23 year old on the books, or someone who was on Medicaid 2 months ago at some point will not pay their bill.

If you work "the masses" on the Internet - all demographics, retention is a tough game. Of course the insurance carriers don't make it easy with their outdated billing and renewal practices you would think they are intentionally trying to get people to cancel.

Humana has a big bonus right now I think it ends December up to $10k, however I think there is a 60 or 90 day charge back window. It is tiered up to $10k with some smaller amounts in between.

GR is running a bonus now, as is BX and probably a few others.

That doesn't matter to me as much as doing what is right for my client.

Agreed which is why Humana bonus didn't make me move.

However that being said I'll take any bonus I can get my hands on!!!
