Formulary Changes

I stumbled across this post on the GoodRx site. Looks like good information that gives a heads up to agents who take the time to run client PDP reports every year.

For the first time in 3 years, fewer drugs are set to fall off the list of medications covered by insurance than the year before. It's important to find out if the ones you need are among the nearly 200 drugs no longer covered.

Just because your formulary covers your medication this year doesn't mean it will next year. Insurance plans often change their list of covered medications every year. Medications also can come and go from drug plan formularies on an individual basis throughout the year for a variety of reasons. Plan enrollees receive written notice from their insurer informing them in advance if such a change occurs.

We should get paid $100 per year per PDP. It would make me less grumpy in October.

What do I do if my medication was removed?
First, make sure that the medication you need really was dropped from coverage. There are some exceptions, such as the Medicare program. If you are insured through Medicare, these formulary medication removals do not apply to you. Check the Medicare.gov portal for more information on prescription coverage.

I refuse to do PDP only.

I had a lady call me about two weeks ago. She had been getting my letters but went with a different agent. Then she couldn't get ahold of him to do PDP.

So she called me. I had stepped away from my phone and she left a message. I called her back a couple of minutes later and left a message. An hour or so later she called back while I was in the Starbucks drive through.

The agent finally called. I asked her if she'd be willing to entertain a second opinion (she decided to go to accendo, which has only been around for a year or two..)

I explained to her about not writing companies that haven't been in the market for more than 5 years, and told her I could offer her exact plan G at 20$ less per month with AARP.

Then I asked her how long she was trying to get ahold of her agent? Her friend referred her and she had a hard time getting ahold of him too.

I asked how hard was it to get ahold of me? Pretty easy.

I told her that being able to contact her agent is only going to get worse after the sales process ends.. You're already on the hook. Here response... I kid you not..

"I think he's going to do better..."

My response:

"I hope so.. I don't write PDP by itself. You may only have one chance to chose a Medigap plan and this is your agent if you have issue."

Dang man, how'd you get so smooth? That's was a great response.

In all serious, know what you do and don't want to do...

The more comfortable YOU feel, the easier it is to listen to what the underlying issue is..

Overcoming objections isn't about convincing anyone of anything. It's asking a question and let them figure it out for themselves.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

As with all my threads.. what I do works for me. That doesn't mean it works for you.. but most of this game is making yourself less stressed and that puts you in the right headspace to listen.
