Getting Started in Med Supps

How do you feel about agents that go for the plan with the highest commission? Or agents that load up the client with bullsheet plans to pad their commission?

Which ones do you consider superior?

FWIW, you probably don't know Scott (sman) and you are making ass-umptions that don't fit the person I know.

Before you move forward with your own pre-conceived ideas and judging others, you might want to look in the mirror.
Most of this forum posting is just our opinions. I just live by Matt 7:12 that's all...and encourage agents to be educated, informed and do the same.

Could you tell me which company is going to have the highest increase this year so I know who to put my clients with?
No, but I can look at a carrier's recent price increase history and make some informed assumptions about their tendencies.

I tell them during your birthday open enrollment, we jump ship.

So tell me, which carrier do you promote here in Georgia? I noticed on your website several Med Supp carriers who are guilty of the "teaser rate" you mentioned. Why would you promote these carriers on your website if they aren't worth selling? And if you don't mind, how about telling us what the future rate increases will be of the carriers you have listed on your website?
I obviously did not get my point across very well. Price is an important factor; I just believe it isn't the only factor or necessarily the most important factor. E.g, suppose during client discovery you might find the client has other policies with XYZ carrier, they are partial to them, and want their MS with them if you carry it. You might advise them it is X dollars more than ABC carrier for the same plan, but if the client didn't care and wanted XYZ in your kit, would you argue with them on the point? Ultimately its about asking the right questions and doing your best to meet customer needs - which can vary with each customer. Their are times and circumstances where the lowest rate is what the customer wants and best meets their expressed needs. Not a bad idea to carry 2 or 3 MS's for this reason, and to have all plans available. We try and carry the MS products that agents ask for, but do advise more than one MS to serve different scenarios.

Thanks for not answering a single question I asked. Is that what it takes to be a good salesman?

Sorry, please forgive me.

1. I don't recruit in GA
2. Lowest rate carrier is worth selling. My argument was that it isn't the only option or necessarily the best option. You can have a different opinion, that is OK.
3. Today I only know for sure that CSI will have a 5% increase in June, effective on policy anniversary dates. I do have rate increases for last 3 years on all carriers, which does offer some insight on tendencies.

Maybe you need a remedial sales course. I believe Luke has some openings.
Spent my entire career 30+ years thus far in financial services sales and marketing, but trying to learn every day. You are an excellent critic, thanks for all of your help and encouragement.
