Google Instant

Heck, look at Microsoft. Not to say they're not doing well, but 10 years ago Microsoft "was" absolutely everything that had to do with computers. Now? Not so much.

Absolutely no one knows what the computer and search market will look like in 10 years.

I dont know, Microsoft still has the largest share of Web Browsing, Still has the #1 Operating System. Dont see where they fell off. Yahoo organic search is now powered by Bing/MSN.

Internet Explorer on a Roll - Gains Another .42%
Internet Explorer extended its usage share gains by another .42% in July, gaining about 1% global share since May. This is the second month in a row of global gains for Internet Explorer and the third straight month of gains for Internet Explorer 8 in the United States. The gain comes at the expense of Firefox (-.9%) and Chrome (-.08%).

I believe Google could be a footnote in 10 years if they're not careful. For the most part (at least for me) Google's search often does not return relevant results.
John, I tend to agree with you partially.

While Google search results still bring more spam results than other major engines (especially in software and other CPA/CTR related searches), I do believe they will still have a major say in the future of the web. They have [str]spied[/str], collected so many information from users throughout the years, that now they're able to project their future plans based on information patterns which they developed from their activity (I hope this sentence makes sense).
Google CEO's information leak that they don't care as much about privacy, hints about massive amount of information they have on their hands.

Great observation. I signed in and started typing prost (for prostate cancer) and it finishes with "prostitutes in your area." Man...this thing is dead on.

Start typing for seo is . Not good :)

We'll see. So far they're on a bad streak - Google's phone failed, Wave failed and so on. To me it looks as if they're scrambling - throwing too much sh*t against the wall to see what sticks.
They are very active and try to set foot in any web trends that come knocking on the web.

Myspace - Orkut.
Youtube - Google Video, if it fails, let's just acquire them
Twitter - Buzz
Flickr - Picasa
Wikipedia - Knol
Facebook - Oh sh*t, now we're stuck...

While they have failed in above an few others, they have had huge success with Gmail/Google Apps and although unpopular, Blogger/Blogspot is still the preferred free blogging platform to average Joes.

Dave, once search engine market numbers change, the major advertising companies will dance to the same tune as well. They advertise on Google based on their market share and not because Google offers better results than Bing/Yahoo.
