Help on Amerilife Interview

I live in Tampa, FL and got contacted by AmeriLife. I will not be setting an interview.

I really appreciate the info, but being brand new to this industry, what are the names of these debit companies, home service companies to start at?

I really want to learn the ropes and enter this industry. It sounds like you had a great beginning experience with one of those companies.

I would love to know how to get set up w/ one.

Thanks so much in advance.

Matt

Wow. I'm sorry I never got the e-mail that a reply had been made to this thread. The two biggest names in debit/home service companies are Monumental and American General. American General and Monumental (both huge companies) have gobbled up a lot of the other debit companies. Here is a short list of once prominent debit companies:

Gulf Life
Commonwealth Life (KY)
Life of Georgia
Western & Southern
Southern Life
Atlanta Life
National Life and Accident Insurance Company
Life and Casualty (you can still see their buidling on the downtown Nashville skyline)
Old Line

Some "black" companies that did home service (most have merged or gone into receivership, with the policies assumed by other companies).

Pilgrim Life
Booker T Washington
Universal Life (an actual company name, not the type of policy)
North Carolina Mutual*
Mammoth Life
Supreme Life
Golden State

*only one known to still be doing business (w/o merger): NCM has taken over policies of some of the other companies listed here

There once was a time that virtually every company had a debit division. Prudential and Metlife started as home service companies, though they long ago ceased that method of marketing.

Independent Life is another one gobbled up by AG. It used to be a weekly debit.

Yep. That was a fairly prominent one at one time. There were a bunch of them when I first got started back in 1984, amost all have been merged out of existance. And to think two of Nashville's legacy commercial TV stations (not to metion radio) were started by debit companies -- Life & Casualty -- WLAC (now WTVF), the CBS affiliate; and National Life & Accident, whose motto was "We Shield Millions" -- WSM (now WSMV), the NBC affiliate. Most people have heard of WSM radio that carries the Grand Ole Opry to this day; the redio station was founded in 1925 by the insurance company.
