How Do You Alter a PDF File?

Hmm, I bookmarked PDFEscape. Interesting tool.
I have a full licensed copy of Acrobat Pro, but I rarely use it. It's a bit overdesigned for what 80% of the people need, and way to expensive.

To print pdf's, I use cutepdf (cutepdf.com), which is free and works well, but I've always had to use Acrobat Pro to edit PDF's. PDF Escape may prevent that....

I have OpenOffice but I did not know you can edit PDFs with it.

Anyway...I tried PDFEscape. It works, although it is a bit clunky.

With OpenOffice you pull up your PDF document. Then you have to "Save As" in a different format. (word, ect.) Make your changes. Then "Save As" in the (PDF format).

It really is a lot simpler then it sounds. Plus it is FREE... And if you don't do a ton of PDF editing it makes more sense then spending money on software. Hope this helps... If you need I have some very detailed instructions I can dig up and post...

How to Edit a PDF File with Open Office

  1. Step 1
In order to import the PDF file into Open Office, you will first need to install Open Office 3.0 or later. To download Open Office, visit download.openoffice.org.
  2. Step 2
Next, in order to edit a PDF with Open Office, you will need to install the Open Office PDF Import Extension. Do a search for "download open office pdf import extension". I have also included a link in the area of this article.
  3. Step 3
Download the extension. Open your Open Office Draw program. Go to the Tools menu and then select "Extension Manager". Click on the "Add" button and then navigate to the folder where the pdf import extension is.
  4. Step 4
Now, all you need to do is use the File ---> Open menu in Open Office Draw. Navigate to the PDF file that you want to edit, and open it.
  5. Step 5
If, for some reason, you don't want to use Open Office Draw, you can always open the PDF file, select all, and then copy and paste the text into a Open Office Writer document. However, you will lose formatting and will have to copy over images individually.
  6. Step 6
Congratulations, you can now with Open Office!
