How Does One Really Learn Commercial?

lol. why don't you just say that your cluster will help them???
newbies have to start somewhere and there is going to be pluses and minuses with every choice. your cluster has a lot of pluses. why can't you just be straight forward with people in this forum? i bet you would sign a lot more folks up that way. that is all i am trying to tell ya. good luck

when we start asking the tough questions, clusters just want to move on to the next agent. the reason siaa signs up so many agents is they say "this is how we do it". it's hard to trust someone who is not transparent. i'd rather not give up my freedom to siaa, but i would lean toward them if i thought it was my best decision. your company offers some carriers that the other clusters don't. honestly with you in charge of recruiting it minuses the good things out. like you said yourself, it is the intangibles that separate the clusters. one of those intangibles is the attitude at the top. are agents viewed as partners or mules? it's hard for me to believe that you were successful at selling anything. you have to at least be able to act like you view us as partners.

The Business I am referring to (Local Businesses that teach Personal lines agents Commercial) has nothing to do with groups/ clusters at all.

I am making a statement that there are business out there that teach Personal lines agents about commercial much like the Hartford class you referred, but in office and more hands on at possibly a lower price.

Your form of Cyber aggression towards me for the last month is silly and childish.

This thread has nothing to do with Clusters and I have said nothing about clusters on this thread. I am participating in a conversation about how an agent could learn about Commercial. I echoed your comment with another form of local customized CL classes.

what is your true purpose in participating in these discussions? please tell us again how your goal is not to sign up agents on this forum. you get paid a salary to have "discussions" on this forum all day? Please continue to insult our intelligence.

and you still have not posted the link to the training that you were writing about, since you are inferring that i am off topic.... just admit that you want a newbie to pm you so you can try to sign them up with your program. once you admit that you are not more intelligent than everyone on this forum, i will leave you alone. or you could just quit following my posts and making snide comments while you are pretending to apologize.

Ah,

I am not any more intelligent than any other person on this forum. I am here to actively participate and learn from agents all over the nation. Captive/ IA/ L&H/ Producers/ Owners/ and even company people.

I don't have a link as the business/person who is starting this business in my part of the US as it is just barley getting of the ground. (I can provide more info as I get more and I'll post it on this thread)

It seems like a great idea and I believe the industry could use this business given threads like these.

sure would. i spent 4 weeks in company paid classroom training and had three years experience writing commercial when i first approached the Hartford. they still wanted me to go to their school for direct appointment (which is understandable. 3 years does not make an expert). there should be an industry standard of education/experience/designations. it seems like CIC designations are helpful. one could just join a cluster like yours and get the help. other clusters are also willing to help as well. some are not. some require you to simply have 3 years experience before you can write it. another plus for your cluster for newbies. it's ok if you just say that. lol

as i mentioned earlier. one could find a broker that is willing to help for a cut of the commissions. one would keep their freedom in tact this way.

On the job training. There is no book or class that will teach you the important parts as many factors are contingent on your geographic location and market availability.

Find an indy agent that has been around for a while that represents a lot of companies and is medium sized. You want one small enough that they allow you to learn all parts of the business. The larger agencies usually make you specialize more. ie, there are marketing people, commercial CSRs, sales people and account managers. The smaller agencies make you handle many of these parts yourself, hence you learn more.

You can take the CIC or CPCU classes and they will help you learn coverages and that is important, but they will not help you close deals. Most of it is knowing the most competitive market at that point in time for that specific class and having access to that market. It's ever changing so there is no book that can tell you that. You learn from losing accounts to it then trying to go out and get it yourself.
