How's Key West for FE Prospecting?

We're headed that way Sat. Be there till Wed. My wife was going to run the half marathon on Sunday but she has a injury and can't run.

Trips been planned since last July but now it's a mini vacation.

We are flying into Ft Lauderdale then renting car to drive the overseas highway the rest of the way.

We've been to Key West twice but both times it was a port from a cruise ship. Just a few hours on the island.

Should be a fun trip. Just kidding about the prospecting. No work down there.

Ive always wanted to go there....but I assumed its a rich & fancy area, so I assume FE prospecting would be poor at best, but I dont live there, so what do I know!

The location is amazing. As far as the people, there are plenty of rich, but I wouldn't call that population fancy. I love a few hours north and we can always spot when one has crossed over to our side.
Have a safe drive JD.

LOVE IT! Enjoy the drive through the keys...

While I haven't been there, you have to assume it is like most tourist areas. There is a small population that owns everything and is rich. A group of well heeled retirees, a group of middle/upper-middle class managers, and a large group of poor working class who lives in the outskirts so the tourists don't see them.

I've been there many times and will be there in July. Strip club at the top a flight of stairs on Duval. Do NOT miss out on that.

Hope you have a blast. I'm in Key West atleast 2-3 times a year, so unsolicited advice follows.

On the drive down, there is a place on Islamorada...apply named the Islamorada Fish Company...it's delicious. I highly recommend it for lunch/early dinner. It's half way between Miami and Key West.

My favorite bar is Irish Kevin's, it's next to Sloppy Joes (another good spot). They always have live music, mostly leaning towards classic rock, and great service/drinks...we always have a blast.

If you wear sandals...weird right, but there is a little place that makes leather sandals called Kino's, they last forever and you can usually take a quick tour of the factory.

As far as, my "fancy restaurant" I don't think you can go wrong at the Conch Republic. It's right on the water and great Seafood...don't order the steak, while it's good, it's not a steakhouse.

I'll stop now...might have talked myself into a quick weekend trip!

Conch Republic sucks. You pay for the view and the size of that building, not quality food.

Head over to Dante's. Order the fritters, crab soup, and their prime rib sandwich served on a cutting board. Cold beer of course. Restaurant has a freaking swimming pool so enjoy the view as well.

That could very well be true...I like their fritters and lobster..usually we just sit and drink and watch the sunset...don't know if it gets better than that.

As a Floridian, I think the drive through the Keys on the Overseas Hwy is one of the most awesome views available. The different shades of blue water as you cross the 7-Mile Bridge is breathtaking!

When you get down to Key West, be careful around a place called 801 Bourbon!
