How's Key West for FE Prospecting?

As a Floridian, I think the drive through the Keys on the Overseas Hwy is one of the most awesome views available. The different shades of blue water as you cross the 7-Mile Bridge is breathtaking!

When you get down to Key West, be careful around a place called 801 Bourbon!

I agree!! I did that drive with the wife and 4 kids...Stopped at Bahia Honda State Park on the way...amazing place.

Hope you have a blast. I'm in Key West atleast 2-3 times a year, so unsolicited advice follows.

On the drive down, there is a place on Islamorada...apply named the Islamorada Fish Company...it's delicious. I highly recommend it for lunch/early dinner. It's half way between Miami and Key West.

My favorite bar is Irish Kevin's, it's next to Sloppy Joes (another good spot). They always have live music, mostly leaning towards classic rock, and great service/drinks...we always have a blast.

If you wear sandals...weird right, but there is a little place that makes leather sandals called Kino's, they last forever and you can usually take a quick tour of the factory.

As far as, my "fancy restaurant" I don't think you can go wrong at the Conch Republic. It's right on the water and great Seafood...don't order the steak, while it's good, it's not a steakhouse.

I'll stop now...might have talked myself into a quick weekend trip!

definitely the Islamorada fish market is a must. sit outside on the water.

You will actually pass 2 on the way down from ft laud, both on bass pro shop territory. For the Florida native, going to this place for your meal is like recommending Red Lobster if you are in Maine.
It's stone crab season...worth every penny. Don't forget mustard sauce!

That's just ugly! Has the quality gone down in the last 10 years...yes, but Red Lobster...nah

Expect to pay a much higher price for stone crab than years prior. Apparently they chopped off both claws last harvest and completely jacked up the population.

Idiots.

I made that same trip in mid December. Rented a car at Lauderdale and drove down. Watch the cops. We loaded a cooler in Lauderdale and must have seen 25 cops along the way. One followed me for 15 miles. They are looking for rental cars, speeders and drunk drivers. The transtesticle/gay bar/beaver shooting homos is a must. Go up stairs for a real treat!

I retract my endorsement of the fish company. I was thinking about Wahoos! Go fishing and they'll cook it for you
