Here is the hypothetical situation which I run into frequently, but have yet to get a straight answer.
A person turns 65 on June 15th and uses his or her IEP to enroll in Part A for a June 1st effective date. This person believes they will be continuing to work, so that they can continue their group coverage and delay Part B (more than 20 employees at company so Medicare is secondary).
In August, this person suddenly decides they want to retire at the end of the month and would, therefore, be looking for Part B to begin on September 1st. To enroll in Part B, would the person be using his or her IEP or would the person be using a SEP?
Just curious because if this person uses their IEP for Part B then, according to the chart, their Part B coverage wouldn't begin until November 1st.
