Linkedin Networking

Mark is the Linkedin King... I heard that Jeff Weiner has him on speed-dial!

A lot of what we do is sell ourselves and networking. A lot of people are missing out by not using and understand linkedin better. It helps to make the right connections in this business. Example, during tax session, I got tons of referrals from tax advisers. There is also a group feature, on linkedin. Linkedin is almost like facebook for business people. There are some trick I've learned on linkedin. Like after you have reach the 500 invite limit, just email them and they will reset it each month and give you another 500 invites. You can message anyone in the same group that you are in, so join some good groups. Google also picks up links on post in groups on linkedin. Example, when you google me, you will find my linkedin profile and some post I made. Again, there is a lot of value in linkedin after you learn how to use it.

I use Linkedin daily, but they have tighten how you can add/contact someone to your contacts so be careful. It's a great resource!

I like to go around town to various little food drink stops and gather business cards, I am looking for ones that have an email with their name or initials in it. I don't want a company card, I want SOMEBODY'S card. I go on LinkedIn, find them, connect with them, and then see what local groups they belong to and just start the prospecting process.

How do you connect with them. When you find a person and ask to connect in the invite the system asks how you know the person...what do you say??

I just connect and tell them I found their card at [the spot] and that I often connect with other professionals in [this area] on linkedin. I let them know I have no reason to assume their in the market for the work I do but that I want to establish myself as a possible future resource. People respect that. I have gotten some health insurance deals, etc. doing that.
