Maternity Coverage

Well then we get back into the state mandate problem. Infertility and contraception are mandated benefits. Coventry offers infertility - no one else. I called them - they said they had to offer it since it's mandated.

BX or any other company complies. BX offers contraception - says they have to. I said "but you also have to offer infertility and don't." No answer.

GR, Assurant, Aetna don't offer contraception - said they don't have to yet Aetna says they have to offer maternity. Coventry offer infertility but not maternity - says they don't have to.

If you figured this out please let me know.

And CoreMed is vastly better than Right Start - no ambulance limits, no special limits on therapy like Right Start, no annual limits on in or out-patient surgery.

The only differences between Max and CoreMed:

*50% coinsurance on drugs - neither her nor here when 6 out of 8 MD companies cap drugs
*6 mo. waiting for preventative
*Facility fees - that can even be erased
*No bene for mental/nervous disorders

Nothing that's gonna BK anyone. I sell some Plan 80's when price is an issue. It's either a $3,000 drug max on Plan 80 or $500 on BX. You pick.

I have fought enough claims over the years to know which buttons to push when the carrier is in the wrong. I would think Time would be gun-shy after all the issues they have had with multiple state DOI's over denied claims & policy rescissions if someone ever pressed the issue on such a claim.

Carriers do stupid things, and refusing to cover the testing, etc. in this case, with or without state mandates, is just plain stupid. An ounce of prevention now could save literally years of costly medical treatment when the child actually arrives. One could effectively argue such and make the carrier look like a fool which often isn't that difficult.

Don't see any reason in furthering this exchange. It's a "what if" situation with no resolution at this point.

Hi,
I currently have my own individual insurance that does not include maternity coverage so I would like to switch to some other provider who provides maternity coverage with maximum benefits. I am in Michigan, can anyone here assist me which provider gives this option and plan details, etc? Thanks in advance.

You have a vast array of choices, including BCBSM (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan), BCBSM, BCBSM, and BCBSM. Oh, and did I mention BCBSM? :1rolleyes: (sorry for the sarcasm)

And it's not available with their Young Adult Blue or the higher deductible Flex Blue II.
