Postage going up another 7.4%. Legitimate dm has a few yrs left

I really don't want to train others on how to compete with me. I use a setter and I know all his tricks. But why would I share it with others? When I started out, I hated setting appts more than anything. I eventually went to 100% DK'ing and did pretty well. Once I was able to afford a setter, my business really took off.
I have a tremendous overseas appt setter i use some times . Very good and cheap .That said i can sell 2 times as many plans door knocking as with appts . I'm just a tremendous knocker . I also thrive on no schedule. People do what they like best .

My biggest customer was a DK. Another agent had just left her house, she was in no mood to go through it all again and I had to argue my way in. After some trust-building, she brought out a milk crate full of policies and asked me to look them over. Since I was only DK'ing back then, I had nowhere else to be and I spent over two hours there. Wrote her for $288/mo, then came back and maxed her husband out with two other carriers for another $300/mo. He died at right around three yrs, so she collected $50k on those policies. And since she wasn't paying his premiums anymore, she wanted to put that money into more policies for herself. Then for her dad and on and on. Another of my biggest customers was a DK of a wrong address. Again, I had nowhere else to be when she invited me in and started bringing out the policies for me to look over and replace. Then her son called from a viewing at a funeral home while I was there, told her to send me over to see him. Then her sister called and told her to send me over to her. I wrote $260/mo off a DK last week from a $10 Internet lead. Those people were just waiting for someone to show up and walk them through it all. They wanted to cook breakfast for me too.

I stand corrected. My absolute biggest customer was a referral from a car buddy, actually a hand surgeon in LA. She's his medical interpreter. I wrote her for $450/mo and her brother for $128/mo. Didn't pay a dime for that lead.

I DK'ed a lady years ago who said she sent the card in when her husband got sick, but he had already passed. He'd had a 15 yr. term and died TWO DAYS before it expired. I said, "I'm so sorry for your loss, but this is a $250k lottery ticket. Go cash it in."

First time i wrote someone over $1,000 mo I just wanted to get out of the house. Now, it's just numbers. Second year in i wrote a single premium for $80,000. 1986. I had to borrow the lady's pen because mine ran out of ink. I submitted that app in black and blue ink. And I stole that lady's pen. :)

But I brought her a new one when I delivered the policy.

I get a kick out of you guys using setters, running appointments, whatever you call it. This is FE. We cater to low income seniors who are barely making it. It's a simple business where agents are mostly writing small face amounts between 3-15k.
Setter….."The representative will be by there between 1 and 2 pm to deliver the information you requested"
This is considered an appointment? Lol

This is a very simple business. I got into it when I learned who our target market is and you could door knock to get business . I came from the home improvement business as a one man football team where I door knocked to get the leads, provided bank financing, furnished the materials, built the job, collected my money.

I also dropped flyers, mailers. I never made appointments. Our market was shift workers at sewing plants, furniture plants, tire plants, knitting mills,retirees…..people who needed 100% financing to get their houses fixed up.

This is like being on vacation. Just moving paper around getting ACH's. Nothing to build,no workers to deal with,no job site liabilities,no warranties to stand behind,no fronting any big money,no running up big bills at warehouses.

Throughout that gig I took guys out that wanted to get into the business.. I would pull up to a house and tell them to "hit that door",most all of them would freeze and say "I'm not doing that" Lol

No balls.

Another big attraction to getting into this business was I can still enjoy my autonomy and personal freedom. I can do what I want whenever I want. If I want to go fishing I go fishing. If I want to go to the nude bar,I go and stay as long as I want. No interruptions.

I almost never make plans, buy airline tickets in advance. I live my life I day at a time, each moment at a time.
The only appointments I'm involved in are doctor, dentist, medical because I have no choice.

If I wanted a schedule, wanted to make big money in the insurance business,I'd rent an office, build a good website,do radio and print media, seminars, hire a smart secretary, sell annuities.

No need or desire. Not for me. I work to live.

No need to be an executive, have an appointment setter,do presentations,go on company trips,be on a schedule.

I'm happy for you guys who want that. I'm happy for you guys who love to bragg about how much money you're making how many applications you are writing. Lol.

I never met anyone in sales who bragged about how much money they were making. The guys making big money had too many ex wives, owed money to the government, the bookmakers. They didn't want anyone knowing their secrets.

Just love my little simple life cruising around in the beautiful countryside at my own pace looking for seniors living on social security and disability who need little FE policy.

Lol

Greg I could train you but then I'd have to kill you.

In all honesty I'm probably the least skilled appointment setter at FEX. As I have been out of the field for over 10-years. But we have some highly skilled appointment setters in the house for sure. And the best trainer I have ever heard.

But for most of you doubters, the first obstacle you have to get past is you don't even think it can be done. If you are that certain that you can't do it, then you CAN'T do it.

A skilled appointment setter is going to set a lot more appointments than an unskilled one. And the only way to get great at something is through practice. It sounds like most of you doubters are definitely not getting any practice in. You aren't even trying.

Believe it or not, there are people that make their living calling agents leads and setting appointments. Do you believe those people really exist? Do you believe that agents that sell over the phone and never go see anyone really exist? If you believe in those people, how can you not believe that top of their game agents can set appointments with the majority of their leads? These aren't average guys we are talking about. You may not love JD. But you have to admit, he has been selling FE at a high level for many, many years. But you doubt that he's great at working the way he has always worked? You would be wrong there.
I know what to say when they pick up the phone or what to say when door knocking, with and without a DM lead in my hand. After all I've been doing FE exclusively since 1999.

My question is how do your agents get 70%+ to pick up the phone? After they answer the phone I'm home free with almost any personality on the other end. But if they don't pick up the phone then the agent's phone skills are pretty much useless.

So far neither you nor JD have answered the question "how do your agents get 70%+ of called leads pick up the phone"? The only way I know of is to dial your leads more frequently for a whole day setting appointments for the next day only. Please share if you have another system.

See that's the problem with what's been said . We know jd and the FEX guys are the best on the phone . All we hear is all the training this and that . It's like having the best steak in the world but no one comes to your steakhouse . Every fe agent in every group I've read for years has said the same thing " Less and less people answer the phone yr after yr " . What we're focusing on is how Jd's getting 70% of his leads yo answer the phone hand dialing them. Also after all these years of a 100 plus dials a week how have your few #'s not been flagged spam ?That's understandable as seniors getting 5-10 times the calls as 5-10 yrs ago . I was at lady's house yesterday and she said got 7 calls in about 30 mins . The truth is nobody has any secret sauce to get people to answer the phone . The only way to somewhat overcome that is buy a ton of leads , have a dialer , have that dialer like kixie that rotates local #'s that aren't on the spam list . Double and triple dial , call at different times . Many of us are skilled at appt setting . But 99% of agents have the same issues. We get 15-25 leads a week and 40-50% will never answer the phone . It all pts to the same results . 98% of fe agents will never NET $100 k after expenses .
