Selecting the Right FMO/IMO

Thank you all for your replies. Do any of you that have replied represent an IMO/FMO and if so which one and are you happy? An agent cannot get all that he wants, I just want good market commission, good training opportunity, and contracts. Would anybody suggest SMS or Premier?

Well, SMS can offer you that. Their Medicare guys have always taken care of everything in a timely manner, and will check in once a quarter or so to offer a new product or carrier, but aren't obnoxious about it.

Their LTC people on the other hand are awful. Every time I have a case that doesn't look great, but I go ahead and get the contract anyway to have it in place if it comes through, I'll get called 3-4 times a week, asking where it's at. Like I don't know that I need to turn in an app if I write it. :goofy:

Personally, I like American Group out of Dallas. They sponsor 2 or 3 trips every year. Right now, when you write 15 Med Supps in the next 3 months, you get a $2,500 trip to your choice of 6 destinations. Oh, and you can double dip on their other contest they've got running.

I've dealt with Ritter and Senior Market Sales. Both are good Medicare FMOs. Ritter probably has better info and tools. I had dinner with the owner of Agent Pipeline last week. Super nice guy. I was impressed.

No wrong choices with any of those.

I have worked with SMS and Ritter and I highly recommend SMS. They are very knowledgeable and always willing to help.

Are you looking to just work in Washington? If so,you're going to want someone who is familiar with the backward ways of Washington state. I'd be asking if they have any agents actually producing in WA.
Care to elaborate what those backward ways in Washington state are?

For starters, if a client picks up a medsup at 65 or if they go through underwriting, they can move any day of the week to any medsup they want to gi. Think California's birthday rule year round. We had an agent that moved his whole block of business after MoO took an enormous rate increase. It was close to 250k in 2 months. Carriers also have to pay level lifetime commissions. There is only one rate regardless of age, tobacco use or area. That's why there are very few carriers in WA.
