Software Suggestions for Independent Agent

There are a ton of insurance specific CRM systems that will track all this for you. Seems like what you want to know is what your cash flow in the business is. I would completely disagree with the guy that said not to use cloud based software. That is ancient thinking and the very reason the insurance industry stays in the dark ages tech wise.

To find a CRM that does benefits & P&C really well will cost a fortune. Look into QQ Catalyst or EZ Lynx. These will help you track and manage accounts with many reports at your finger tips. This software will hear towards P&C but you can adapt it to life and health. All your P&C stuff will mostly download auto but you will need to schedule in your calendar time to enter data from commission statements. These systems will let you export to quick books. You should be able to get a pretty good package for a couple 100 a month.

Good luck. The insurance tech world is changing by the minute. Find a system with API technology and one that is innovating constantly.

I am only expressing my personal use regarding the cloud. I have been in the computer business since the 1960's and LOVE the cloud and use it extensively. I am also very proficient in computer recovery backup.

Notice the sequence - recovery backup.

Most people use backup but few use full recovery. I have bought and tested the majority of the products available. I finally found ONE that worked with the cloud for recovery. All others refunded my money! Just because I am one of the few that really tests FULL recovery from the cloud only means that I am one of the few that have ever tested FULL recovery. Most people can use almost any product to recover a folder or a few files. Full recovery, almost no one does because of the effort to do a full recovery. They pay when they need it and it does not work.

Back to the cloud and CRM. I may be old (73) but have way too many years of computer experience to rely 100% on the cloud for ANY service. Just because I feel that way does not mean the cloud is bad and should not be used, just make sure that if it is not available you have an alternative technique to doing business.

My ISP email server was recently down for ALL of their customers for almost a week. I have alternative means of email so for me it was a significant inconvenience. For others they lost a LOT of money. The blog was full of sad stories. By the way, this vendor had great backup, just untested full recovery!
Backup is easy, recovery is the issue.

Same with the cloud, when it works GREAT!

Back to the real topic,it would be nice if members would post what (if any product except spreadsheets) they are using and how they feel.
I just received my insurance license this year and are just starting a new career.

I use Capsule CRM. Its the Google CRM, its cheap ($12/month per user) and has no bells or whistles. It doesn't do commission tracking, but I am ok with that. With the "tags", I can run reports to get what I want.

I use a modified one card system for client info and this fits very well with that model.

But I am probably the least technical person on this forum, too. ;)

Wrong...that would be me.

I'm new to the forum here and I'm looking forward to reading/getting to know more of you. Long story short. I'm transitioning into my dad's business - he's been doing it for over 20 years independently, just him. He's getting ready to semi-retire. He has his own way of doing things of course. Nothing wrong with those at all. I need a system to track my policies, commissions - what I have on the books! Is there something out there where you can track everything in one - life, auto, home, med supps? Most of the auto policies are month to month and that's how the commissions are paid so I don't know if that throws a wrench in it or not! I've googled systems but they all look good on the surface and I can't find one with everything! Also it's just me and my dad, no other agents at this time.

Thoughts!

I have been using GBS from Boulder, Colorado. 1-303-449-4897. I really like them, the price is reasonable and the service is great. Give Jeff Seale a call

Do you think the carriers ever screw up sometimes and forget to pay?

Sometimes.

Aetna has had problems for years, at least on the IFP business. Can't seem to bill that business either, even on a bank draft.

All my other carriers paid on time and correctly.

Until 2014.

Then they all went to hell. Humana became the worst.

I stopped writing new IFP business in late 2013 and bid my IFP clients a fond farewell at the end of 2014.

Now I only write Medigap. Fewer hassles. Every carrier I use pays correctly and on time.
