Wifi Tether

It was very smart for cell phone companies to stop the unlimited data plans and limit it to 2 gig..

Actually, most users don't come close to 2 gig for phone stuff. You only hit this if you do a lot of streaming OR if you tether. A random tether session here and there won't have an impact, but if you do it consistently, it will add up pretty quickly.

I ran tethered the other day when I was in a different office for the day. It was a somewhat 'light' use day for me but I used 300 meg over about 6 hours. Not to bad. No streaming, no voip calls, no video calls, etc, just web work, email, and normal stuff. Given this, 2 gig might make 7 days of work, if you don't upload a bunch of stuff to your cms system or to a carrier.

We are on Sprint. I do not think we are limited. Thank goodness we have unlimited text - Three teens.

For the last week or so I have been helping take care of a sick family member. With tethering and my laptop it was like being in my home office. Except no dog barking.

They say the avg person wont ever use more than 2 gigs...but if your kids are watching movies, it wont take long to reach it.

Just another way for some cell phone companies to make more money.

It's interesting that AT&T used to not allow you to have netflix on your phone, until they did away with the unlimited plans. Now they welcome it :)

I read where Verizon monitors data volume & (can??) catch you. What's the fun of having their unlimited data package if you can only use a crappy little phone? Much better to connect to the laptop.

My phone isn't crappy.

Yes, they can catch you, but if you don't abuse it, you're going to be fine.

If you want to get really fancy you can mask it so they don't know any better, but that's likely more effort than it's worth.
