I was looking at UHC's for October, I was charged $75 for adding Ohio (I'm a Tx resident) as a non resident through them.

I called UHC-she didn't know anymore than I did. Is that normal, is that going to be charged with other carriers as well? Each state I do a non res for? They took it out of my commissions for Oct, wonder if I didn't have any commissions, would i start in the hole?

I have a producer license and an agency license, so when I get a new state its the state fee and also the appointment fee. Like FL for example, I think its like $50 for each, but then UHC comes in with the huge agency fee ($400 ish)... why?? I find it helpful to cuss out loud a bit, then move forward.

Yes, they take it out of commissions, this is normal. If you dont have commissions, then why would you get that state appointment? They know you're gonna write business, they don't want to appointment a 100k non producing agents who don't have business to write. I think the fee helps cut down on that problem.

If you think that sucks, try getting a downline agent who only needs to write one app, but you still have to get both licenses and both appointment fees... ughh, it adds up! Buuuut, we are lucky to have such problems, seriously! We have dream jobs!

Thx for the reply. If you were a new agent (which I basically am, just have about 12 UHC MA clients that stuck from 2018, and 5 Aetna Med Supp clients), you'd have no commissions coming in. I contracted with 4 other MA carriers, if they do the same, I will have no commissions with them and will start at 0.
Do all carriers charge that? Do they charge for each state, I have 5 more (Mo, SC, NC, Co, and Ky). 5 states with 5 carriers can get expensive, do not remember any carriers doing that in 2018 (I wrote a cpl mths till my Transplant surgery) and I had several non resident licenses.
UHC charged me $15, times 5. I guess I need to call UHC again and talk to someone that can help me, as the agent that helped me had no clue why.

Google search and some reading explained alot, between N & F, and Gordon and Assc websites, as I didn't know anything about the "appointment fee's". The good thing is, most of my non Res states are no charge states (I haven't found a 2022 list yet). The reason UHC charged me 5 times the $15 for Ohio is they have 5 co's licensed there and you have to pay for all 5, maybe the other carriers don't have as many co's there.
Is what it is, would of got expensive if it was $75 per state PER carrier (over $1800), but that's not the case.
We'll see what other surprises await me.

Have your FMO send you the appointment fee lIst for each state UHC charges. They don't charge for all states and fees vary from state to state.Aetna, Cigna ,Humana,Wellcare do not charge appt. fees but will not appt until you have a sale.Anthemn will charge upfront for some states, but not for all. They say they don't have a list but will tell you the appt.fee when you call Producer helpdesk.

I thought non residents in FL had to pay a fee for each individual county that they work.

That's for resident P&C agents...not L&H.

Ahh perfect! Thanks for alleviating some concern! I still need to circle back with you on a disability case we discussed a while back!

How is snow forecast looking for Tahoe this season?! I think we may make a trip out there
