UHC PDP going non-commissionable 6/1/25

One by one commissions ceasing , commission suppressions occurring and agents say the same thing . We never used them . No big loss . Hunker down . Tough times coming . Massive terms , commission suppression and some no commissions coming
When you have a client base, there will always be something to sell. The best adapt, the old dogs die. Sometimes it's better to die.

The only thing you've got in this world is what you can sell.

This quote applies as well.

Sometimes...it's better for a man just to walk away.
But if you can't walk away?
I guess that's when it's tough.

Humana did the same thing in the states i work .Copays on tier 3's . Cigna had no deductible on all their plans and copays .Aetna had all $590 deductibles and coins .
Many in my state went from flat fee copays to a percent of drug cost copay, however if someone was going to hit the MOOP even under the old rules they likely weren't affected by the new rules. The people affected are those who, due to the % rather than flat copay, now owed more. That would bring in more money for the companies. I presumed they had switched to % to do exactly that - get more money out of those who'd otherwise not hit the MOOP with just flat amount copays to help make up for the lower MOOP.

It was easy to see last AEP that a company with a flat copay tier 3 was going to regret it.
They'll 100% go to a % next year for brand name and start paying commissions. But, the plan won't be worth it anymore.

Most, if not all, of the PDP carriers also write MAPD.

From a carrier perspective, Wellcare had a good idea with their $0 premium, $0 commission PDP. The idea was to heavily market direct to consumers the idea "upgrading" to a $0 premium MAPD.

Some policyholders took the bait, some didn't.

Agents with clients have a better chance of retaining those folks over agents who only have policyholders.

It will not surprise me if more PDP carriers adopt this strategy.

Yes, You are correct. UHC will make all PDP's non-commissionable beginning on 6/1/2025. They will notify all agents in the next few days. They will still pay renewals (unlike WellCare)
According to the official commission amendment that I just downloaded from Sircon, the renewals will also be $0 commission.

for applications signed on or after June 1, 2025 --- so I would think apps signed before 6/1 still get renewals.
Right?

Yes that applies to apps after 6/1 . But let's be honest they'll make the plan so bad 80% will move it . Another big issue for med sups it's very possible few carriers will sell pdp . The govt has never understand carriers make little money they just exit and leave members screwed
