Could you use your middle name as your first name for a while when cold calling? Now you become "Alan Powell" or "Josh Alan Powell" or something like that for a while until people forget, which they will eventually. Maybe if your middle name is catchy you could go by initials....for example, I have a friend who's first name starts with a P, middle name starts with a J, he goes by PJ. Could you become "JP Powell" for instance? I think there are many ways you could rearrange how you refer to yourself....

Correctly me inf I'm wrong but didn't that Josh Powell kill himself as well...So the simple fact you are calling now means your not that guy. Heck turn it around and maybe defuse it....

I would just introduce myself and follow with not that Josh Powell... Might be a way to have a friendly conversation.
For those who don't know, Josh P killed his wife two years ago, but the body was never found in Utah. He came to live with his dad, who currently is in jail for child porn. Josh P kids were being taken away from him until he underwent a sexual phsyc exam. His kids had just become old enough to recall their "camping trip" two years ago. "mommy was in the trunk. Mommy and Daddy went for a walk and only Daddy came back.
During his allowed visitation the caseworker brought the kids to the house, Josh shoved her out the door and lit the 10 gallons of gas he had poured out around the house. As she was calling it in, the house blew up. Killing his kids and himself. Right now people are torn between him killing his kids because he was losing custody or killing the only 'witnesses" to his murder of his wife.
This has gone on for two years and it's just a shame that he murdered 3 people.

Just go by your first name for a while....say, "this is Josh calling from..." . Leave out the last name....I think that if you start using your middle name it may confuse people. I live in WA and hadn't heard about this until I clicked the link.
Well, this will be a great story to share in years to come. I've endured two cases of mistaken identity by the local and state police. Once when my license plate number was apparently "one letter" off someone else who had been spotted on the interstate a good hour and a half away from my house pulling a girl out of the car by her hair--that was a good 4 hours of a Sunday morning wasted.
Then again about a year later when someone called into 911 with a TTY and announced they had their sister and mother tied up in the basement of their mother's house and and were going to kill them both, then dropped a name that was "very similar to mine". They showed up to my mom's house (she lives in the same town) and apparently the local police have some pretty impressive assault tactical gear. The funniest part of that story...my sister was on her way to visit my mom and they stopped her at the road heading up to the neighborhood where mom lives. So, cops were swarming the house to save her, when instead she was stopped at the road block talking to the cops who were sending people away.
