The Securus Way

I'm actually still pretty new but so far I've only had 1 charge back. Nothing too terrible. I'm going to do my first direct mailing with Chris actually. Before that it was only through friends and family, which is all I knew. I also will be purchasing a data list and work it with a power dialer.

I ask because I get a sense that you are aggressively getting ready. Getting ready to do something is not the same as doing it.

They were awful for direct mailing or telemarketing training because whenever I would ask them to help me with direct mailing or cold calling they would say they don't advise training for anything other than project 300 and they refuse to go outside of that.

Dam it used to be a Project 100 and then Project 200 now its 300 and agents continue to flunk out....You would think they would realize by now that referrals alone especially for new agents is not always successful.

I understand you loud and clear. I gave myself little deadlines. I sent out for the 25 mailers through Chris and I'm purchasing list of data and my power dialer tomorrow. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help btw

What does everyone think about Securus and their presentation? Has anybody seen it? I have a friend who told me that they use a presentation and something called "I am your policy" and some other letter. It seems like a good program. Can anybody give me their opinion? Much appreciation!

I worked with Securus for seven months and may be able to give you some ideas in regards to their company. I had been working for New York Life as a career agent while in college and had requested some information about the final expense business from their website. An agent that works for them contacted me, came to my hometown and gave a few of us the "pitch". After making cold calls with New York Life for two years and barely making production minimums, I was eager to join after hearing some of the success stories from other agents my age.

I became contracted with AML and then shortly afterward UHL and Kemper. My commission rate was at 90 with AML and 75 with UHL. The leads with Securus were supplied by my up line at a set price of $22 each. I was working 25 each week and was very happy with the results. My up line was very helpful and constantly on the phone trying to help. I was making more money than I ever had previously so I was exceptionally happy. I attended the cult-like conferences in Atlanta and joined in on all of the functions.

After a few months of work and traveling to several different parts of the state I began to run across other FE policies that were priced much better. I started doing research independently and found much better contract offerings with actual renewals. My main reason for finding the other companies was because I wanted to be able to offer them to my clients. I wasn't doing them an honest service if other products existed that were better. I also wasn't doing myself a service if another agent could come in behind me and slaughter my prices.

So, I left. I was hesitant at first because my up line was my only supply of leads. Reading these forums gave me every bit of information that I needed to completely go independent.

The Securus presentation isn't some elusive creature that only they have found. Their agents are stressed to team build by creating agent down lines. They have a flip chart presentation for new agents to use in a house when they are just getting started to help keep them on track and provide a type of corporate "quality control". They did supply me with a copy of the "I am your policy" letter but I don't think any agents that I worked with ever used it. As Newby and Chris stated earlier, its something that anyone can use.

If you are thinking about joining Securus it may be a perfect fit for you. It just wasn't for me. I made some really great friends that still work for them and will probably never consider leaving. If you do decide to go that route, make sure that you have an active up line that cares about your success. If you ask them about your renewals they will more than likely tell you that they don't matter and to overlook them. They do stress the importance of up line protection via their affiliations with AML, which is good. 16% of every agents advance goes into a sales pool and stays there for a year until that policy advance is fully paid for by the client. This helps if the you bring someone on and they leave you with debt. Another point which I found disadvantageous to my success was the lead system. A $22 set cost wasn't anything to complain about but I was at the mercy of my up line as to where I would be working and which type of lead it would be that week. After 60 days the leads are sold to new agents for $3 to help them with the start up costs of new leads. As an agent, I didn't want someone else going behind me in a couple of months aggravating my clients.

If you are looking to work with other agents in a team environment they do have that to offer. But if you're looking to do whats best for clients and your bank account, I would look for other venues. This is my first post and I have tried to be as unbiased as possible and just give you the information. I hope that it helps.

I have found newby at fexcontracting to be very beneficial and helpful during my transition. JD also joins in on their conference calls and gives some very beneficial advice. If I was completely green in the business the transition would not have been as easy because the Securus up line did show me the ropes with a more hands on approach, however, I paid for it. If you have any more questions about Securus just let me know and I'll help if I can.

One of the best first quotes I have seen

Dam it used to be a Project 100 and then Project 200 now its 300 and agents continue to flunk out....You would think they would realize by now that referrals alone especially for new agents is not always successful.

I believe they don't know what else to do. For various reasons, they no longer attract enough new agents from who the Project X00 would be successful. But they don't know any other way to prospect, so they keep taking agents who have no real network or a broke one and sent them loose with a Project 200. Then they keep wondering why so many fail.

I agree. That project 300 killed me. I had no idea how bad it was when I first started. Most of the people on my project 300 were my friends who were broke, their parents were either broke or had something that disqualified them from a Mass Mutual policy. The ones that had the money asked me, "how long had you been doing this?" I would tell them "two weeks," and rightfully so they would laugh at that and say, "I'm not handing you money for a life insurance policy which you have 0 experience doing. Sorry." I can't blame them. I didn't take it personal because they were right.

Now I'm learning telemarketing techniques and door knocking techniques and other prospecting techniques. I have no problem learning the methods and then eventually seeing the results.
