Veterans using the VA. Pros and Cons of a Medsup v MA

I am much better at paying for dinner and a nice bottle of wine.

I rarely hang out in bars. Not my idea of a good pickup spot. The grocery store seems to have lonely women.

Did I mention that I cook?

I like a nice dinner and good wine, too. There are "OK" wineries in PA, better ones in NY. I'm going to Portugal in July on a business training trip with my sister (a foreign language teacher) and heard once you try the wine there, forget domestic wines.

I'm not into bars, either. And the men at the grocery store looked frazzled and lost.

I also cook... Or I'd starve.

Only had Portuguese wine once. Seems hard to find here or maybe just the store I use.

I generally get left coast wines. Mostly CA, OR and WA. The NY wines offered here are limited. Occasionally find good values from SA, Italy, Spain and France. If I liked white would throw in some German wines. South America (mostly Chile) and Italy usually on my list if I can't find a good domestic.

The frazzled, lost ones in the grocery store are shopping from a list their wife or GF gave them. How do I buy 2 eggs for a cake? What do I do with the other 10? Or maybe that is supposed to be 2 cartons of eggs? She can buy her own feminine products.

Single guys only shop in the frozen food section. If it can't be cooked in the microwave they don't buy it.

Take those same guys to Home Depot and you will never get them out.

A couple of buddies and I were invited to a fundraiser for a Veteran's Org (VO) last night. No spouses, Great BBQ, and hosted bar. We said Yes. There were a couple of girls that had taken full advantage of the hosted bar. Holly smokes those girls could get down low.

A lot of them contemplated not taking part b until I put them in a part b refund plan.

What is that?

an MA only that has a signficant Part B giveback and adds very good extras (better than the MAPD). If that is something available in your area, I would look at it.

Sorry guys, What is that, is there somewhere to read about this? In California.

If you have other forms of health care coverage (like a private insurance plan, Medicare, Medicaid, or TRICARE), you can use VA health care benefits along with these plans.

That seems to be how many do it and only us the VA for things like vision, Hearing aids and maybe DM supplies and meds.

We have a lot of Portuguese in our area. I am fortunate to get homemade wine from time to time. There are a dozen wineries with in 30 minues of us and Great wine trails within a few hours.

OK, for the vets that can afford it it sounds like Medicare and a MS is the best of both worlds.

For the lower-income vets or the non 100% service-connected that only plan on VA coverage. What is the Pro and Cons of adding an MA? Does it interfere with the VA coverage?

Part B give back, is on some MA plans. That's where they give back part or all of your Part B premium each month. It's not only free...they're paying you to let them give it to you.

Got it. a buddy had told me about something like that. I do not think it is available in my area, yet.

I think there was one carrier in GA that did it a few years ago. They are no longer around.

It's a gimmick and most carriers don't offer that. Why do you suppose everyone isn't doing the offset?

You can bet the offset is built in somewhere else, like higher copay's. There really isn't anything that is truly free.
