Borrowed Car Turns Out Not to Be Covered by Insurance

Progressive will cover this if the damaged party comes after the son for the damages. That's probably what progressive is waiting for. Ultimately they're probably going to end up paying this. They're probably just waiting out the dad to see if he pays it out of pocket since technically he's also legally responsible for this as the registered owner of the vehicle.

As previously stated I would request a denial of claim in writing. If you do that you'll either be calling their bluff or have the documentation you need to proceed further. If you get a denial letter, a call to the insurance commissioner should straighten this out.

The son WAS a RATED driver on the policy right? Not a non-rated driver? If he was non-rated they're going to be out of luck.
