How do you get the new MBI when enrolling client doesn’t have it?

During the "training" for the new F'd up Plan Finder there was discussion about asking your client to share their MyMedicare login credentials. A definite no-no that can get your butt in a sling.

What you are proposing is, in my opinion, a step beyond "borrowing" their login.

Seems like there are a lot of creative ways to get in trouble and you found one more.

Bad enough to mash some buttons.

Everyone does things differently. I tell my client how to get their number and let them do it. If they can't get it I put everything on hold until the DO come up with it.

That's a sensible price of admission.

Most of my clients ARE computer literate but that is pretty much a prerequisite if they want me to help them. I don't have time for paper apps, home visits, etc. Too many other folks who can pull their share of the weight to mess around with those who can't get their own Medicare number.

By the time an agent would spend working on the ID questions about prior loans, street addresses and phone numbers and them trying to come up with security question answers, let alone username and passwords, you could just have them call Medicare and get the number. Or sit with them and get the client's permission for you to talk to Medicare. I did that for a sight impaired client who didn't think they had received their card. 1. got number over the phone 2. ordered new card.
Speaking of those who you wouldn't be walking through the signing up process, due to distance or lack of computer ability, email, etc. I have walked several through the process of enrolling in an account. Also, coached on how to do the Medicare phone call. Lots of listening to automated irrelevant questions to say "it's something else" and finally get a live person, still for some clients, the computer option isn't there, and setting up stealth agent access is not an answer.

One of my clients, very bright, wealthy and computer literate, opted NOT to enroll in MyMedicare because one of the requirements was access to his credit report.

Really?

Part of an identity check maybe?

He refused to unfreeze his credit so he won't be using MyMedicare.

I have never seen that in the over 1 dozen times that I've been on there. The "trick question" that I always choose is "Which city did you meet your spouse in?". No matter what the real answer is, I always use the same city every time.
 
Could be wrong, but I seem to recall a series of questions to verify your identity. Which of the following addresses are yours. Have you ever had a loan with X lender?

Those are all questions that can be obtained from your credit file.

Which city did you meet your spouse in?". No matter what the real answer is, I always use the same city every time.

You must not wander very far from home if your answer is always the same city . . .

You are talking about the types of questions account holders have to set up for identity verification in order to log in to already created online accounts at their financial institution(s).

S is talking about the types of identity questions the government asks in order to verify your identity when you want to initially create your mysocialsecurity and mymedicare accounts. Sometimes those questions are obscure enough that the people who did the activities in question are unable to remember the answers; which results in frustration, anger and multiple attempts to establish the accounts.
